SnagIt Capture Tool Instructions

SnagIt allows you to capture images, text, and video, of your windows desktop or you may enter a URL to capture all images from a web page(or site if you prefer). You can also capture spooled printer output from other applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) SnagIt uses a group of settings called a profile to define what is captured and how it is output. A profile consists of 5 settings, Mode, Input, Output, Filter, and options. The Mode allows you to choose what you want to capture- an image, text from the selection, video, images from a web page/site, or printer spool. For a more complete tutorial on modes in SnagIt, Click Here. For input you can select to capture the whole screen, window, active window, defined region, menu, selected region, scrolling window or region, shaped region, DirectX application, or DOS program. For output he captures can then be saved to a file, web page, mail attachment, Windows clipboard, SnagIt Catalog Browser, instant messenger, or application print spooling. The filter setting is optional, but includes options to alter the appearance of the capture including drop shadows, edge effects, color changes, etc. The final options allow you to decide if you want to display the cursor, have a time delay before the capture is taken after the button or hotkeys are pressed, whether to open the preview window after the capture, and if multiple areas will be captured. You can easily create a profile using the Add New profile Wizard.

When you initially open SnagIt, you will see the capture tab selected as seen in the image below. On the left hand side of the window you see the list of saved profiles. On the right side you see the capture settings box with the capture button directly above it.
