To have the software installed on a faculty/staff computer you will need to phone the help desk for a work order.
Creating audio files
When RealProducer is opened you will see the window below. The left hand side of the window is for specifying input devices and settings. The right hand side is for setting output parameters such as file name, intended audience profiles, and clip information.
Select Input Device
In the Input side of the window click the radio button labeled "Devices", then select an input device from the “Audio Devices” drop down menu. This most likely will be the name of your sound card.(see figure at right)
Test Microphone
There are two graphic input sound level indicators in the main window of the program. The values shown in the indicators will follow the input sounds. If you speak into the microphone and the indicators do not change, first check that the microphone is properly connected to the computer. Finally, check the operating system volume control for the microphone. It may be disabled or muted.
Set Recording Options
In the Output side of the window(see figure at left, click the "Audiences" button. The Audiences dialog box will open.(see figure below)
Under “Encoding Settings” set “Audio Mode” to “Voice”.
Under “Encoding Settings” set “Video Mode” to “No Video”.
In the “Audience Selection” area there are two tables. On the left side are the available audio settings. On the right side are the settings that will be used for this session.
Click on “28k Dialup” and then click on the button with a picture of a trash can on it. This removes that setting from this session.
Click on “16k Substream for Dialup” and remove that as well. This should leave “56k Dialup” for this session.
Close the Settings using the “x” button in the upper right corner of the window.
Name the output file
Under the "File" menu in the Real Producer menu bar, select "Add File Destination". Choose a directory and filename that you want to save this recording under. The filename will be listed under "Destination" in the output side of the window.
Start Recording
Prepare to speak into the microphone.
Press the “Encode” button to start recording.
Press the “Stop” button when you are ready to end the recording.
The file has now been saved in the directory you selected earlier.
Your file is now ready to upload to either your UASHOME account or UASOnline.
Uploading the RealPlayer file to UASHome/UAS Online
For UASHome upload the file to your web directory. In order for you file to stream it must be accessed through a special URL that calls up the streaming software. If the file is just clicked on it will not stream.
You may place it in its own directory; just make sure you add that directory name to the path in the URL when you create it. The following example is for UASHOME:
http://uasmedia.uas.alaska.edu/ramgen/username (no tilde)/Web/foldername /file name
For UAS Online upload your file and make your link, but edit the link to follow the format below:
